Our Story

Welcome to Students Community Table, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping fellow students! Our mission is to reduce the cost of educational materials (mostly books) while promoting sustainable practices and community collaboration.

Founded in 2022 by JD Gibson (CK Class of 2024, University of Michigan Ross School of Business, Class of 2028) and Wynne Gibson (CK, Class of 2026), our organization was born out of a desire to make educational materials more accessible and sustainable. We recognized that the cost of textbooks and other resources can be prohibitively high for many students.  As well, we saw the waste when these items are discarded after one use.  We decided to take action to address these issues by creating Students Community Table.

Our organization is run by student volunteers who are committed to our mission. We operate on a not-for-profit basis and rely on donations and volunteer efforts to keep our services running.

At Students Community Table, we believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Our bookstore sells previously-owned textbooks and other educational materials at affordable prices. Our donations program allows us to accept new or gently used educational materials, which we use to supplement our existing inventory and reduce the amount of books that end up in the landfills each year.  Working within our non-profit also provides real world experience running a non-profit business, invaluable for those interested in applying to business school in the future.

New this 2025-26 academic year will be an environmental impact project, starting in September, 2025!

. Join us in our mission to make education accessible for all while promoting sustainable practices, and together we can make a positive impact on school community and our planet.
